Fasting and Other Rituals:

Fasting is considered to be the most significant ritual for Kanda Sashti or Soora Samharam. However, it is always advisable to fast according to your own convenience and comfort level rather than putting your health at risk. Some people observe a complete fast while others choose to have fruits and milk throughout the day.

It is necessary to take a holy bath before dawn and offer prayers to Lord Murugan. You can also visit the nearest temple and offer flowers to the Lord. Observing fasts, dancing, singing devotional songs, and listening to religious music are a few other rituals that are performed on this day.

Some people, however, decide to break their fast only on the day of Soora Samharam after all the rituals are performed which depends on individual preferences and convenience. Similarly, people can observe fasts on other days of Kanda Sashti except for Soora Samharam. The day of Soora Samharam concludes with a simple, healthy diet and prasadam. Since the next day (Monday, 16th November 2026) will be the Thirukalyanam day, make sure to follow your family’s traditions and rituals.
