The Divine Story of Lingodbhava – The Infinite Pillar of Light

• According to the Shiva Purana, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu once discussed their positions in the cosmic order and questioned who was supreme.
• At that moment, an enormous pillar of brilliant light appeared before them, extending beyond their ability to see its beginning or end.
• Lord Vishnu took the form of Varaha and travelled downward to discover the base of the radiant pillar.
• Lord Brahma assumed the form of a swan and journeyed upward to find its summit.
• Neither deity could discover the limits of the mysterious pillar, revealing its immeasurable nature.
• Vishnu returned and honestly acknowledged that the pillar could not be measured.
• Brahma claimed that he had reached its top, but his claim was later revealed to be untrue.
• Lord Shiva appeared from the pillar and demonstrated that the Supreme Divine exists beyond human measurement and understanding.
• This sacred manifestation became known as Lingodbhava and is closely associated with the spiritual symbolism of the shivalingam.
• The story teaches devotees about humility, truth, and the infinite nature of Lord Shiva.
• The lord shiva lingam therefore serves as a powerful reminder of eternal consciousness, spiritual transformation, and devotion.
