Natyasastra - Revisited

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan honors its founding day by bringing to light our ancient scriptures, which are the foundation of Indian classical music and the performing arts. They have collected the information they have learned and turned it into books for this purpose. A wide range of topics are covered in the articles written by Bharat Gupt, Kapila Vatsyayan, Radhavallabh Tripathi, and K. D. Tripathi.

The chronology of the Natyasastra, the many kinds of manuscripts and recensions and the importance of meter and metrical compositions for understanding the text and even for establishing authenticity are all examined in this book. A small number of the articles describe the close relationship between the sastra and the prayoga and show how the sastras have been interpreted to fit into modern prayoga customs.
