Kalvanin Kadhali is one of the masterpieces of Kalki, which describes vividly the multiple facets of a woman, her weaknesses, strengths and a depth which remains unexplored. The novel’s plot set over love between a dacoit and his beloved, ends with a tragic note, thanks to the hastiness of the lead lady, typically impulsive, who jumps to conclusions without a thought.
The debut novel by the much-celebrated Tamil author was initially published as a series in Ananda Vikaten, in 1937 and paperback format in 1954 and released as a film in the following year. Interestingly, the novel was composed to be filmed and was published owing to a lack of funds.
