Higher Sanskrit Grammar

The current grammar was created to fulfill the expanding educational requirements of college students. The author has made every effort to ensure that the current grammar meets the needs of the student body. As Bhattoji Dīkşita explains, the author has followed Panini meticulously in penning the numerous chapters of this book. A large number of the regulations included here are translations of the pertinent Pāņini Sūtras. When needed, the original Sutras are provided in footnotes. Complete treatment is given to sandhis and declensions; special attention is given to compounds that predominate in classical Sanskrit literature; the construction of feminine bases is illustrated; Taddhita affixes are organized alphabetically. The Conjugation of Verbs chapter is a unique component of the current grammar. There are plenty of examples provided to explain the general rules. The verbs are listed in alphabetical order if they alter their pada when certain prepositions come before them. Nearly all of the information included in the first 20 chapters of the author's Guide to Sanskrit Composition is included in the Syntax chapter; the Prosody chapter draws from the Chandomañjarī and the Vrttaratnakara. To make the book as comprehensive and helpful as possible, the author has gone to great lengths.
