• Mythology: Lord Hanuman and the Sun
One morning during his youth, Hanuman awoke feeling extremely hungry. Spotting a brilliant, glowing red orb in the sky, he mistakenly believed it to be a delectable fruit and leapt towards it, eager to consume it. Unbeknownst to him, what he perceived was not a fruit at all—it was the rising sun. To prevent Hanuman from swallowing the sun, Lord Indra, the King of the Gods, intervened. He hurled a thunderbolt that struck Hanuman on the chin, sending him crashing to the earth—lifeless and injured. The impact disfigured his jaw, and from that injury arose the name Hanuman, which translates to "one with a broken jaw." Devastated by his son's fate, Vayu, the wind god and Hanuman’s father, withdrew from the world. As the air disappeared from the earth, all life began to suffer—plants wilted, animals gasped, and chaos ensued. To restore balance, Lord Shiva revived Hanuman, bringing him back to life. With his son restored, Vayu returned, permitting the winds to blow once more and life to thrive.
