• The Bhagavata Purana by Maharishi Veda Vyasa, usually referred to as Srimad Bhagavatam, is one of Hinduism's eighteen Mahapuranas. Within the Vaishnavite tradition, it is a renowned text that is of utmost significance. The book is regarded as a thorough and profound philosophical work that covers a wide range of topics, including spirituality, devotion, and the nature of the Supreme Being.
• The Sanskrit text Srimad Bhagavatam is credited to the sage Vyasa, one of the most revered sages in Hindu tradition. The poem has over 18,000 verses and is divided into twelve books (Cantos or Skandhas).
• The "Srimad Bhagavatam Moolam" book contains the Sanskrit text of the Srimad Bhagavatam, along with a Tamil translation and commentary. It is designed to be a comprehensive guide for students and scholars of Hinduism, and is considered to be an authoritative source on the teachings and philosophy of Lord Krishna.
• Lord Krishna, who is regarded as the Supreme Personality of Godhead in Vaishnavism, is the primary subject of Srimad Bhagavatam, which is largely concerned with his life, teachings, and heavenly pastimes.
• It includes a variety of accounts and tales, such as those about Krishna's early interests, his interactions with followers and celestial incarnations, and his function in the creation and upkeep of the cosmos.
• Achieving freedom (moksha) and unity with the Supreme is the ultimate aim of human life, and the scripture dives deeply into complex philosophical ideas, examining subjects like the essence of reality, the paths of devotion, knowledge, and action, as well as these issues.
• The Srimad Bhagavatam includes stories of other notable deities, sages, and historical individuals in addition to the Krishna-centred storylines. The moral precepts in these tales serve to highlight the various spiritual pathways.
• According to the Srimad Bhagavatam, the importance of devotional service (bhakti) is emphasised as the surest way to achieve spiritual enlightenment and form a loving bond with the Supreme. It emphasises the value of developing unadulterated devotion, love, and faith, as well as yielding to the will of God.
• The work is greatly venerated among Vaishnavism adherents, and its teachings have had a significant impact on Indian spirituality, literature, art, and culture. It is still studied, recited, and honoured by followers and academics all over the world as a source of spiritual inspiration and direction.
