Novelist Lakshmi, in ‘Nallathor Veenai,’ emphasizes that women should have the courage and ability to confront anything and chides cowardice which might aggravate suffering. The plot explores the woes of protagonist Akila and her attempts to emerge successfully from her tribulations.

Born as Tirupurasundari, novelist Lakshmi has published hundreds of short stories and novels and has won numerous awards including the much coveted Sahitya Akademi award. Also a doctor by profession, she lived in South Africa for 22 years before returning to India after the demise of her husband only to write innumerable literary works which were mostly family based. A couple of her stories were filmed too.
