Siruvapuri Murugan is one of Lord Murugan’s revered forms, often associated with the town of Siruvapuri in Tamil Nadu. The Siruvapuri Balasubramani Temple, located near Chennai in Thiruvallur, India, is a historic 500-year-old temple built by local villagers. The temple, originally known as Chinnambedu in government records, is dedicated to Lord Murugan, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. According to the Sthala Purana, Lava and Kusa, the sons of Lord Rama, are believed to have stayed at this sacred site. The main deity of the temple is Sri Balasubramaniyar, and the temple also houses Thiru Annamalaiyar and Thiru Unnamalai Amman. The Utsava Moorthy of Lord Murugan is depicted in a wedding posture with his consort Valli. A statue of the renowned saint-poet Arunagirinathar stands facing the temple sanctum, as he visited this temple multiple times and composed numerous Thiruppugazh songs in praise of Lord Murugan. The Archanai Thiruppugazh is among the famous hymns sung to honor the deity.
