Karl Marx's 1887 book Capital: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF CAPITALIST PRODUCTION was first translated from the third German edition, which was edited by Frederick Engels and compiled by Samuel Moore and Edward Aveling. Thiyagu translated the book into Tamil, and R. Krishnaiah edited it. Karl Marx was a Prussian-born philosopher, economist, sociologist, journalist, and revolutionary socialist who lived from 5 May 1818 to 14 March 1883. From a middle-class family, he was raised in Trier and went on to study political economy and Hegelian philosophy. After becoming stateless as an adult, Marx lived most of his life in London, England. There, he collaborated with German philosopher Friedrich Engels to further develop his ideas and wrote a number of writings, the most well-known of which was the 1848 essay The Communist Manifesto. Since then, his work has impacted later intellectual, economic, and political history.
