Kurma-Mahapurana - Sanskrit - English
The Purana is a unique field of study. Like the Sankhya and the Vedanta, it is regarded as one of the Vidyas and has its own unique cosmology theory. Maha-puranas, the name for the eighteen great Puras, are believed to exist. Kurma Mahapurana, one of the eighteen Maha-puranas, is a significant Purana in which Lord Vishnu himself narrates the story as a Kurma (tortoise). The Kurma Purana is separated into Purva-bhaga and Uttara-bhaga portions. This Purana has a variety of tales that offer invaluable lessons. First, the genesis of Prajapatis, the functions of the four varnas, and the means of subsistence for each varna have been explained. In the same way, the attributes of Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha have also been elaborated.
