Ayyappan is a Hindu Deity popular in Kerala. He is also known as Sastha, Dharmasastha, or Manikandan. Ayyappa is considered to be the ruler of the universe, alongside Vishnu and Shiva, as he is considered to be the union of Mohini (Vishnu) and Shiva. The worship of Ayyappan is typically associated with strict observance of celibacy, fasting, and penance. Devotees undertake a pilgrimage to Sabarimala, following a set of strict rituals and traditions that include a 41-day period of abstinence, before finally ascending the sacred 18 steps to the temple.

Golu is a doll and figurine festival held in South India during Navaratri and Dussehra. It is a set of steps decorated with bommais (dolls) of all shapes and sizes to tell a story about a Hindu or secular cultural issue. Every Kolu needs a refreshing twist with beautiful handmade dolls;

The legend behind Ayyappan’s birth:

• Ayyappan, also known as Manikandan, was born to Lord Shiva and Mohini. Mahishi, a demoness, had obtained a boon that she could only be killed by a child born of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. Manikandan grew up to be a virtuous prince and defeated Mahishi in a battle, fulfilling his destiny and establishing himself as a revered Deity known for his courage and righteousness.
• Ayyappan is a traditional golu doll, crafted with clay. Each piece is meticulously painted by artisans.
• Decorate your Kolu Padi with this unique collection of Golu dolls for this Navarathri from Giri.
• An excellent gift for festivals such as Navaratri, Diwali, and housewarmings.
• During Navaratri, people visit each other's homes to see the Golu display and offer prayers. It is considered an auspicious time to seek blessings from the Divine and to celebrate the victory of good over evil.
• This Doll stands apart from usual golu bommai because it is painted in vivid, rich colors with a different composition and definition.
