Devdutt Patnaik's 'Garuda Purana' is a detailable and solid look at the Hindu and Garuda Purana concepts of Death, Rebirth and Immortality.

Why do Hindus give food to their deceased ancestors? And why is it that they would rather burn corpses than erect tombs? Is there no such thing as a Judgement Day in Hinduism? What effect does death have on its ideas about womanhood and caste? Does the Tantric perspective on death differ from the Vedic one? Hindu rituals and stories have ingrained in them the concept of death and rebirth. Not only is death tragic, but it's also unclear. It is, for example, both the end of one adventure and the start of another. Similarly, death is regarded as unlucky and a source of impurity, even though it is true that the ancestors are revered and fed after death. Numerous ceremonies aim to resolve these issues and offer solace to the living while also bringing deliverance to the deceased. Devdutt Pattanaik examines the various ideas surrounding death from a variety of Hindu puranic and mythological perspectives in Garuda Purana and Other Hindu Ideas on Death, Rebirth, and Immortality. This study features presences of Bhuta, pishacha, preta, pitr, and vetala; it also features appearances by Yama, Hanuman, Kaal-Bhairav, Ram, and other gods and lesser beings. The book offers a fresh look at death's inevitable nature, but it also serves as a manual for decision-making for the living.

""Garuda Purana"" by Devdutt Pattanaik offers readers a comprehensive exploration of one of Hinduism's most revered texts. Drawing upon his expertise in mythology and folklore, Pattanaik delves into the rich tapestry of the Garuda Purana, unraveling its profound teachings on life, death, and the afterlife. Through engaging storytelling and insightful commentary, this book sheds light on the mysteries of karma, reincarnation, and the journey of the soul, offering readers a deeper understanding of Hindu spirituality and the eternal quest for liberation.
