The Maratha saints, who are well-known for their remarkable ability to reconcile the material and spiritual realms, have made a significant addition to the pantheon of Indian saints. However, as they spoke or wrote in Marathi, only Marathi readers were able to understand what they said or wrote.

The biography of Eknath, who is second only to Tukaram, the Maratha saint known for his passionate poetry known as the abhangs, is portrayed in the book. Eknath is a unique figure among Marathi saints. The Bhakta Lilamrta (Chs. 13–24) by Mahipati, which is generally accepted as the legitimate version of all contemporary allusions to Eknath, is the source of the current narrative of Eknath's life.
