Anbe Aaramuthe (meaning "Love's Beginning" in Tamil) is a highly acclaimed novel by Tamil author Thi. Janakiraman, first published in 1965. It is considered a classic of Tamil literature and has been translated into several languages.

Plot:

The story revolves around the lives of Anandasami and Meenakshi, who are childhood sweethearts and destined to be married. However, on their wedding day, Anandasami, overcome by a sudden spiritual awakening, abandons Meenakshi and becomes a wandering sanyasi (ascetic).

Thirty years later, Anandasami, now known as Swami Abdhutananda, returns to his village, a changed man. He seeks forgiveness from Meenakshi and proposes to marry her, even though she is now an old woman. Meenakshi, despite her initial hesitation, agrees, and they get married.

The novel explores the complex themes of love, loss, faith, and redemption. It delves into the emotional journey of both Anandasami and Meenakshi as they grapple with the consequences of his decision and try to rebuild their lives together.

Critical Acclaim:

Anbe Aaramuthe is widely considered one of Janakiraman's most successful novels.
It has been praised for its realistic portrayal of human relationships, its exploration of spiritual themes, and its beautiful prose.
The novel has won several awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award, the highest literary honor in India.
