Idol or picture of Lord Vishnu is adorned with flowers, sandalwood paste, and offerings. Devotees light a lamp and offer fruits, tulsi leaves, incense, and sweets to the Lord. Tulsi leaves are considered as very precious leaves of Lord Vishnu and play a very important role in the worship.

Many devotees fast strictly throughout the day. Some of them do not eat anything throughout the day, while others eat only fruits, milk and other fasting foods. Level of fasting depends on the health condition and personal beliefs of individuals.

During the day, people keep chanting Vishnu mantras, reading scriptures, participating in devotional activities. The fasting is ended the next day on Dwadashi after offering prayers and food to the Lord. Charities and feeding needy people are considered highly beneficial on this day.

Chaturmas Starts from Devshayani Ekadashi
