Ashtalakshmi Lamp - Love becomes holding vessel, my sincerity and enthusiasm (aarvam) becomes the very ghee that sustains the lamp, and the happy & contended mind becomes the light, Bowed down by affection lighting this lamp, enlightenment is achieved. Thus The Lord is revealed in all His shining (Lakshmi Thayar) glory. Light symbolizes knowledge, and darkness the ignorance. The Lord is the “Knowledge Principle” who is the source, the illuminator of all knowledge. Hence light is worshiped as the Lord himself. Knowledge removes ignorance just as light removes darkness. Also knowledge is a lasting inner wealth by which all outer achievement can be accomplished. The sloka to be chanted while lighting the lamp-Deepam-Subham Karoti Kalyanam, Arogyam Dhana Sampadah, Shatru Buddhi Vinashaya, Deepa Jyotir namostute. After light is lit, through Thayar (Lakshmi) one would be able to the Lord.
