A Deepam/Vilakku/Diya is an oil wick lamp. The Vilakku has many uses like Puja, Aarthi, or decorating the home on festival days. A kuthu vilakku is a lamp usually made of brass or silver. It can hold many wicks or thiris separately within the lamp. The lamp looks like several diyas have lit up at once. Lighting an oil lamp in the house attracts positivity and wealth into the home.
Features
This Vilakku is a traditional lamp from the town of Karaikudi in Tamilnadu. It has five sides to place the wick/thiri. The round base to keep the wick/thiri is deep enough to retain oil to burn the thiri/wick for a long time. A beautiful and well-crafted Swan or Annapakshi bird has pride of place at the top of the Vilakku. The vilakku is ornately craftedand can be taken apart for easy storage. The Vilakku has a sturdy and well-designed stand.
