Description

According to mythology, the monarch of Puddukottai venerated this Amman as their favorite Goddess (ista Devathai) and was a devout follower of Pragadambal. Arai Kasu (a coin), a packet containing jaggery, and puffed rice are given to worshippers on the night of festivals. Locals refer to Amman as Araikasu Amman. Later, it was adopted as the Amman's name itself. After praying to the Goddess Araikasu following the loss of one of his priceless jewels, the monarch once retrieved the jewel and built a temple to her here. Near Chennai, in the locality of Rathanamangalam, is the Araikasu Amman temple. It is believed that if we pray to the Amman, the items we misplaced or lost would be discovered.
