A Deepam/Vilakku/Diya is an oil wick lamp. The Vilakku has many uses like Puja, Aarthi, or decorating the home on festival days. A kuthu vilakku is a lamp normally made of brass. It can hold many wicks or thiris separately within the lamp. This makes the lamp look like several diyas have been lit up at once.
Features
This Vilakku has five sides to place the wick/thiri. A beautiful and well-crafted Swan or Annapakshi bird holds pride of place at the top of the Vilakku. The lamp itself is deep and wide enough to retain oil to burn the thiri/wick for a long time. The Vilakku has a sturdy stand and can be taken apart for easy storage.
