A Deepam/Vilakku/Diya is an oil wick lamp. The Vilakku has many uses like Puja, Aarthi, or decorating the home on festival days. A kuthu vilakku is a lamp usually made of brass or silver. It can hold many wicks or thiris separately within the lamp. The lamp looks like several diyas have lit up at once. Lighting an oil lamp in the house attracts positivity and wealth into the home.
Features
This Vilakku is a traditional lamp from Tamilnadu. It has five different diyas attached in the middle and a round-based Diya at the bottom. Each Diya has a thick base to keep the wick/thiri and is deep enough to retain oil to burn the thiri/wick for a long time. The three figurines attached to the stem of the lamp give an air of grace and elegance. A beautiful and well-crafted Shankha or Conch has pride of place at the top of the Vilakku. This ornately crafted piece in an antique finish can be taken apart for easy storage. The Vilakku has a sturdy and well-designed stand.
