Akshaya Tritiya, meaning "third" and "eternal," signifies perpetual wealth. It's an auspicious day to start new ventures, invest in opportunities, and establish fresh beginnings. Purchases on this day are believed to bring wealth and good fortune.

Akshaya Tritiya is an important day in Hindu mythology since it is connected to many historical occurrences and legends.

Sudama and Lord Krishna

Lord Krishna, a destitute Brahmin, provided Sudama with money and prosperity during Akshaya Tritiya, a day believed to symbolize prosperity and fortune. Despite Sudama's fear of seeking help, Krishna's understanding and support led to Sudama's prosperous life.

Lord Parashurama

Lord Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born on Akshaya Tritiya over two million years ago. Recognized for his axe skills, courage, and bravery, he is celebrated with great fervor on his birthday, Akshaya Tritiya, as a symbol of dharma.

The Treta Yuga

The fact that Akshaya Tritiya is associated with the Treta Yuga, the second of the four yugas in Hindu mythology, adds to its significance. The Treta Yuga, known as the era of devotion and sacrifice, is thought to have begun on Akshaya Tritiya. The seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Rama, was born during the Treta Yuga.

The Ganga's Arrival

In addition, the Ganga is said to have come down from heaven on this day. Mythology states that in order to atone for his forefathers' misdeeds, King Bhagiratha performed penances and brought Ganga to Earth. Ganga ultimately made her way to Earth on the day of Akshaya Tritiya; this occasion is known as the Ganga Avataran.

Lord Kuber

The god of wealth and prosperity, Lord Kuber, is also connected to Akshaya Tritiya. Legend has it that on this auspicious day, Lord Kuber received his wealth and his title as the Lord of Wealth. On Akshaya Tritiya, it is thought that those who worship Lord Kuber are bestowed with wealth and success.

Mahabharata

The fact that Akshaya Tritiya is related to the Mahabharata epic adds to its prominence. Legend has it that on this day, Veda Vyasa began work on the great epic, and Lord Ganesha was the one who recorded it. It is stated that Vyasa's continuous narration of the epic was the only demand upon which Lord Ganesha agreed to write the epic.

Akshaya Tritiya Significance:

Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej and Swayam Siddha Tithi, is an annual celebration in Hindu and Jain communities on the third tithi of the Vaisakha month's Shukla Paksha. The Puranas suggest it is an ideal day to start new ventures, such as buying gold, silver, or real estate. The Sun and Moon are in their highest positions, with the Moon's brightness compared to mental strength and the Sun's brightness to bodily consciousness. Hindus believe that launching a new business on this day ensures success and wealth. 

How Should Akshaya Tritiya Be Celebrated?

In Indian culture, Akshaya Tritiya is a big day that ushers in the harvest season and is observed with religious rites and fasting. People bring offerings of Tulsi water and pray to Lord Vishnu and Mata Lakshmi Narayan. The day is also dedicated to swimming in holy rivers or lakes and contributing to the least fortunate. Purchasing gold and jewellery is a common way for people to wish for wealth and good fortune. People in Orissa serve Lord Jagannath Pana, a traditional drink consisting of water and sugar. On this day, devotees of Lord Krishna embalm the deity in the belief that doing so will grant them access to eternal bliss. On this day, people frequently buy gold since it is symbolic of prosperity and good fortune. 

Akshaya Tritiya Maha Puja 2024

Akshaya Tritiya falls on May 10, starting at 4:17 AM and ending at 2:50 AM, and is named after the third lunar day of the Vaisakha month.

 Benefits of Akshaya Tritiya Maha Puja: 

Wearing rudraksha is also highly lucky and useful on this auspicious day. It is recommended to wear 7 Mukhi, 10 Mukhi, 13 Mukhi, 16 Mukhi, and 19 Mukhi. The favour of Lord Vishnu is on Rudraksha on the 10th and 19th of Mukhi. On 16 Mukhi, Lord Rama is especially gracious. However, Goddess Mahalakshmi bestows her grace on the 7th and 13th of Mukhi.
